They targeted my church group

A representative from a gold company came to speak at our church about protecting retirement savings. He positioned himself as a fellow Christian who wanted to help our congregation prepare for uncertain times. He quoted scripture and talked about being "good stewards" of what God had provided. Five members of our church group ended up transferring money into gold IRAs through his company. Combined, we invested over $300,000. When one of us had coins independently valued a year later, we discovered markups ranging from 65% to 140% across all our accounts. The "brother in Christ" who sold us these coins earned a commission on every transaction. He has not returned our calls since we started asking questions. We are now working with a consumer protection attorney as a group.
